Europa Zeus Rodeo, dirt and acrylic binder on canvas, 290 x 185 cm

In Greek mythology, the god Zeus meta-morphosed into a bull and kidnapped Europa. Here the myth is reinterpreted into an American rodeo scene. The paint in this image was made by mixing dirt with acrylic binder. This painting plays with the idea that Zeus-as-a-bull created the painting himself by smudging mud with his hooves, perhaps at the same time he had Europa the rodeo-rider on his back.
